Specification of Thiram TC in FAO SPECIFICATION 24
THIRAM TECHNICAL POWDERS
(Intended for use in the preparation of fungicide formulations)

.1 DESCRIPTION
The material shall consist of thiram, together with related manufacturing impurities, as a white to cream powder (Note 1). It shall be free from visible extraneious materials and added modifying agents.
.2 ACTIVE INGREDIENT
.2.1 Identity tests
Where the identity of the material is in doubt it shall comply with any two of the following tests:
.2.1.1 Melting point (CIPAC 1; 24/1/M/1.4)
About 145ºC.
.2.1.2 TLC of copper complex (CIPAC 1B; 24/1/M/1.3.2)
The copper complex made from the sample shall have the same Rf value as that from a standard thiram.
.2.1.3 TLC (-/M/1.3.3)
The major component in the sample chromatogram shall have the same Rf value as that from a standard thiram
.2.1.41 Amine (CIPAC 1; 24/1/m/1.3.4) Note 2)
The majority of the amine produced from the active ingredient shall be dimethylamine.
.2.2 Thiram content (CIPAC 1; 24/1/M/1.2)
The thiram content shall be declared (Minimum declared 96.0%). When the combined carbon disulphide is determined and expressed as thiram (Note 3), the content obtained shall not differ from that declared by more than + percentage units.
.3 IMPURITIES
.3.1 Water solubles (-/M/1.5)
Maximum: 0.7%
.3.2 Oil (CIPAC 1B; 24/1/M/1.7)
There shall be no oil in the material.
.3.3 Water (CIPAC 1; 24/1/M/1.6)
Maximum: 1.5%.
